Missing Reaction Papers

May 10, 2010

Just a reminder that many of you owe me reaction papers.

There are 8 in all.  Please check the homework page to see what they are.

***All missing papers must be in by 5/17 to get class credit.***

You can ask me which ones you are missing if you are unsure.

Thanks,

Kimberlee

Final Projects

April 14, 2010

Hope you’ve all been making good progress on your Final Projects.  Here’s a reminder of what’s expected:

The final project will involve your choice of either a 10 page essay or a PowerPoint presentation of 20 slides plus ½ page written discussion for each (like the reaction papers).  The discussion or essay will include a combination of both formal analysis and historical context, as modeled in class.
As with the one-page reaction papers, the essay or Powerpoint will involve researching the topic of each day’s class (as listed on the syllabus) and suggesting one or two artists that you think should’ve been included and why.  It will include proper usage of vocabulary introduced in class and bibliography of sources.
For example:
Each entry should contain approximately 200 words—- including research on each lecture topic (from class) and suggest one or two artists that you think should’ve been included and why.  It will include proper usage of vocabulary introduced in class, a bibliography of sources and an image or two.
Please remember: Plagiarism is unacceptable.  Put everything in your own words and cite sources.
*****You may NOT use the same artists you’ve already cited in your reaction papers.******
Please let me know if you have more questions.

Looking forward to seeing you Monday, April 26th!
Best,
Kimberlee

Welcome back from March break everyone!  Hope you had a restful vacation.

We are now in the final quarter of the school year, continuing with our weekly reaction papers and looking ahead to our final projects.

Please check out the final project assignment once again.  You will be working on yours in class on 4/5 and 4/12.  (The description is at the bottom of your hardcopy syllabus, and also on the blog syllabus here.)

And, looking forward to some more of that yummy spring weather as we enter the home stretch.

Rubber Chicken Time! DOH!

February 8, 2010

Dear All,

Rubber chicken time.  I made a glaring boo-boo today. :O

I inadvertently dropped a Powerpoint slide—Barnett Newman’s Vir Heroicus Sublimis [“Man, Heroic and Sublime”] (1950-51)—thereby confusing it with Frank Stella’s Empress of India (1965).  I apologize heartily, and suggest you take a look at the real Newman during our Presidents Day byweek.  Here’s a link to it.  Notice that the “zips” are vertical, like standing persons.

I still think our discussion of Stella’s black-and-white Empress of India as an expression of Existential Philosophy resonates, and you students showed great insight.  Thanks for a great class.

I’ll see you on February 22.  In the interim I will collect all missing homework placed in my box or delivered during my office hours on Wednesday (2/10) in the main office, or by Wednesday via email.

Class Materials

January 25, 2010

Dear All,

You will need a pen or pencil, notebook and three-ring binder for this class each week.  Please bring these, along with your Clark School Assignment book to each class meeting.

Failure to do so will result in demerits.

Thanks.
